Weekend Fun!

After the craziness of work on Friday, I had a great weekend of fun.

We all went to see the Arrogant Worms on Friday at the River Run Centre. This is the concert that was supposed to be in June, but the whole stage flooded and it was postponed until now.
It was awesome! I’d never seen them in person before, and the whole thing was really funny. They played some new songs from their latest album, and some old favourites. Trevor had a new shirt!
I think I’ll have to pick up their newest, Torpid. I almost bought it at the concert, but the line was large and I’d rather buy it online for $10. Really, what would I do with a physical CD after ripping it onto my computer? I’d rather have the music already in .mp3 format.
I have a couple photos of the concert here.

I wanted to get autographs, but no one wanted to stay so we left instead. :p

There was a guy who was on before the Worms that played the guitar in a really cool way. Anyone remember his name? I wish it was been written down somewhere, ’cause I can’t remember it at all. I wanted to look him up. :p Jay Calder opened for the Arrogant Worms. Check out his stuff, it’s pretty cool what he can do with a guitar!

We had a little get-together to send Teri off to NZ.

WE WILL MISS YOU, TERI!!!

After I drove her to the airport on Saturday, everyone dispersed to go do their own Saturday thing.
Josh and I went shopping for Hallowe’en supplies. About half way into a trip to WalMart, I got a call from , who had lost her purse. I went to the Greyhound station (since she had it when she bought her ticket home, but not when she arrived there) and got her purse. Then we drove it to KW for her.
Then we went home and crashed on the couch for a few hours. Tiiiired.

On Sunday, after scouring the entire city for green fleece and finding nothing (Seriously? It shouldn’t be that hard to find green fleece, but Fabricland is closed on Sundays), and I raised my own fleece stash. Sorry, Teri, it only got a little messed up!
Then it was off to her place where we worked out a pattern for some Kon Con PJs (that would be pajamas shaped like Kon for wearing at cons, of course!) using some boring grey fleece that I had about a million metres of. I think we have a great pattern now, but we’re first trying it out on some nice rust colour to make Fox PJs first. If all goes well, then we’ll move on to Kon and have snuggly cool PJs! *little dance*

Household Solar?

Does anyone out there on my Friends List know about alternative power at home? Like having your own solar panels or mini wind turbines and whatnot?

I’m not particularly interested in wind, but I’ve always wanted a house with solar panels. Apparently you can get them at Canadian Tire now and places like Home Depot also offer installation. Huh. Who knew?

Anyway, just throwing it out there. Any input is awesome.

I’ve been looking for a site that lists the actual costs and benefits in simple terms. Such as “if you want to do X, you’ll need Products A, B, and C, which cost about $A, $B, and $C and can provide $Q savings and Z benefits. If you want to do Y, you’ll need… etc.”
Stuff about Canada would be best, but northern USA works too.

Is it worth doing to heat your water?
Is it worth doing to generate power for your house?
It it not worth it for anything until the tech improves/until something else?

I know there’s a program in Ontario where you can connect your PV panels to the Grid and the government will pay you for the power you put into the Grid, but I think that’s for larger installations than a household roof?

Extra, Extra, Read All About It!

Good news, everyone!

Garrison is engaged!

That’s right, my brother is getting married! He and his girlfriend Erin just announced it to the family over Thanksgiving weekend. Wedding is tentatively scheduled for Summer 2010. They already have a house and a cat and are living in Kincardine.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all my Canadian friends! I hope yours was as excellent as mine was!

I have belatedly made my blog Pink for October. LJ too, but that one kinda sucks because I’m too lazy to edit a premade pink theme. Remember that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Both of my (blood) grandmothers have fought – and beat! – breast cancer.

Random Musings

I went to the dentist this morning! I haven’t been in a while, since I hadn’t bothered to find one in Guelph yet. Now I have a good one, based on a recommendation from Josh’s aunt and uncle. Nice guy; did a thorough job.
My teeth and jaw kinda hurt now due to the cleaning, but they still have that dentist-clean feeling even though I ate lunch. ^_^

I need better categories for my blog. I just haven’t had time to think up any good ones. 😛

I’m trying to decide what to wear to work for Hallowe’en and/or what to wear for Trick or Eat.
I’m thinking either my (new, improved) faun costume or a generic vampire or something. Exciting.
Apparently Josh’s work is having a Smurf theme. Haha! His team is twisting it around a bit and making horror Smurfs.

I want to make some pajamas/kigurumi of Kon.

If I got them done on time I could wear them for Hallowe’en! Maybe I could wear them to give out candy in the Guelph Santa Claus Parade! Con-G is trying to be in the parade… but we can’t get a hold of the guy who’s supposed to be in charge of it. We’ve emailed and left phone messages. Boo-urns! We’re not sure if we’re calling the right number, though. The published number is just voicemail with a message about a seniors tour on it. o_0

Note that many posts are now public, and thus your comments are also public. Muahahaha!

Overheard in New York

passed this on to me:

From here.

The United Nations, Encapsulated

Dude #1: They have been underestimating my power.
Dude #2: What?
Dude #1: They have been underestimating my power for quite some time now.
Dude #2: What are you, a supervillain? Who’s been underestimating your power? The justice league?
Dude #1: No, the electric company. They say I owe them eight hundred dollars.
Dude #2: Dude, you and I were having two totally different conversations.

–Penn Station

Some days, I wish I was a supervillain. I’d have a cool outfit and a kick-ass lair/lab. I wanted to be called SiniStar, but I’ve been informed that that’s already a game from 1982. I’m considering stealing the name anyway, unless I can come up with a better one. Suggestions accepted.

Update on the $50

Turns out the $50 was indeed for a supplemental exam I took back when I first started going to Guelph, due to a funny credit swap from Seneca.

When I asked why I hadn’t received a bill for said exam, they said they don’t send bills or invoices for supplementals, and it would not have appeared on my tuition bill either. The guy I was talking to said that if the prof running it didn’t tell me it cost money, I’d essentially have no way of knowing about it.
Nice, eh?

When I asked how I managed to graduate while still owing money to the school, he said he didn’t know how that was possible, and that it was weird that it happened. o_0
Oh well.
I want my transcript so I have to pay it I guess.

Hey ! Here is a poke for you to try to remember to get over there and give them the $50 for me. ^_~ If not, that’s ok, I’ll go on Wed afternoon after the meeting with the lawyer. But in that case, I’ll need my cheque back.

Say What?

I wanted/needed a copy of my transcript so I sent in a transcript request to UofG last week.

Today I got an email from the school saying there is a $50 sanction on my account from a supplementary exam in 2005.

I don’t know what that’s about, since it never appeared on one of my UofG bills (or else it would have been paid years ago), and I received my degree. I thought you couldn’t officially graduate and/or get your degree if you owed the school money. I clearly graduated, and my degree is framed and in my house.

I can’t outright dismiss it, because I did some weird things in 2004/5/6 because I came to UofG through Seneca College, and some of the credits transferred funny and I had to shuffle things around a bit.

I called Student Financial services today, but all I got was someone’s voicemail. I left a message, and I hope someone gets back to me so I can figure this out.
