Me = Employed

Yup, I’m employed.
Don’t get all excited, it’s not a “real” job yet. ^_~

For legal purposes (aka “because I shall undoubtedly bitch about it”) the company shall remain nameless. However, here’s three big hints:
1. Inbound call center
2. Tech support
3. Josh works there
If you don’t know where Josh works, points 1 and 2 are really all you need to know. ^_^

Not exactly a job I can see myself enjoying, but this way I can make $10/hour while I continue my hunt for a real job. Making money to pay off student debt is always good.

For the next 3 weeks I’ll be in traning, with nice wonky hours. 4pm to 12:30am. That’s right, 4 in the afternoon until after midnight.
Good thing I have a car, because the London busses don’t run after like 11 (or 12 or something, regardless they stop before I’m done my shift) and unlike Josh there’s no way I’d feel comfortable walking down Oxford by myself after midnight.

On the plus side, that leaves most of the “business hours” time of the day free, if I need to go anywhere for an interview. ^_^

  1. Me = Broken Record.

Tim Hortons in Alberta pays $15/hour to start.
    There is no PST.
Everyone is hiring all the time.

You’ve got a place to stay (in your case multiple) while you get on your feet.

  2. Never hurts to apply. And there are many better jobs than Tim Hortons. I just use that as an example of what kind of requrements employers are looking for.

  3. I’ve applied to a few places in Alberta (usually in places like Red Deer though 😛 ) but no one’s gotten back to me, though that’s pretty much par for the course so far.

  4. What do you have again? Bio=Chemical engineering something or other?

Look up Syncrude and or Suncor. They’re the 2 big ones. Hell, I know Lafarge is always hiring Chemical engineers too.

  5. It’s Microbiology, I’m actually not so good in biochemistry. Any industrial food plants out your way? I imagine there’d have to be some sort of post-abattoir beef processing plants at least, and food processing needs microbiological testing.
I’m ideally looking for industrial microbiology, because I have experience in that area.
I’m also applying to the Gay Lea plant in Guelph [insert joke about the name here].

On the plus side, I think my Mum’s going to start looking out for jobs for you in the K/W area and see if she has any contacts or anything. I mentioned what you do and the sorts of jobs you might like and she got that tone of voice that sort of says “hmm…let’s see, who do I know that works in that industry?…” She may not know anyone that could help you, but if she does, I’ll let you know.
