I have vanquished the previous tragedy! This won’t be in play format, though, because I’m lazy. and I went out to Michael’s to pick up some more supplies for Con-G (glow sticks, safety pins, and a checkers board!). I bought one of the “13×19” frames that I almost purchased last weekend.
I brought it home and put the print into it. It fits perfectly!
Maybe a little too perfectly, as when I say perfectly, I mean the edge of the frame aligns exactly with the edge of the print. Right now it’s a tiny bit crooked, as the print wanted to remain being rolled up when I was putting it in the frame, but it’ll flatted out after being in the frame a while, so I’ll fix it later. You can’t really tell. ^_^ Minor downside: We went right after work, and I forgot to bring the “12×18” frame to work that day, so I didn’t get a chance to return it. Plus side: they were both 50% off. Unless I make it out to Michael’s again soon, I’ll just keep it and get a smaller print to go in it. Maybe I’ll see one I like at Con-G!
The other day I was talking to about her Evil Master Plan (and by “talking to” I mean “fangirling over it”), and she suggested I make my own. I keep forgetting hers exists until she mentions it again (sorry!), so I hadn’t thought to try to put my many goals into some kind of cohesive plan. And guest what, friends, you’ll get to hear my ramblings about my own Evil Master Plan soon enough.
Since deciding to start crafting an EMP (hrm, maybe it needs a new name if it abbreviates to EMP), I’ve felt really awesome. Happy, focused, and eager to get going on it. And this is before even making the Plan! Just thinking about putting all my ideas down onto some all-encompassing form is awesome.
I’m seeing how this feature works. I’d like the “published” to display in Flickr, but I also don’t want to have to type my whole pot here in Flickr, as I want to add other images, etc.
To top it off, the dress was on sale for 1/2 off, and we were done shopping by noon!
Then we came back home and my mom and I got ready to go to Ms. Thielman’s memorial service. We met up with Dan Lynch there, along with most of the high school teachers. I got to talk to my favourite teachers, Mr. & Mrs. Taylor, for about 5 seconds, but that was nice.
The service was nice, too. It consisted of a few people who had known her standing up and saying a few words. There was a lot I hadn’t known about her. I’m not surprised, but I think it would have been nice to know before now that she loved Star Trek and wrote sci-fi stories for her writing group. She had a small beige marble urn, inscribed with her name, and below that “Boldly Go…”. Star Wars music, among other things, played in the background of the memorial photo montage CD.
By the time we got back, it was too dark to go out and plant the Letterbox I made for Kincardine. My mom and dad and I went out early Sunday morning to try and plant it. We had a lovely little walk and found a great place, but there wasn’t enough time to backtrack and make viable clues to lead other people to it before I had to leave (before 10am). 🙁 So I had to un-hide it and take it back to Guelph with me. At the time, I was really pissed off at the stupid Guelph parade, and the stupid city of Guelph fort having a parade in the middle of the day instead of at dusk when floats could be lit up, and more importantly, instead of at a time that would have let me do all of my tasks for the weekend. 😛
That said, once I got there I had an awesome time at the parade! I’m the one in the green dragon PJs! ^_^ We walked along and gave out candy to little kids. When the candy ran out, kids were just as happy getting a high-five or hugging Tiger or Guilmon. A couple times I had to rescue when she got stuck in a pile of children way back from where our group was. Haha! We all had a blast and are totally doing it again next year!! Now all we need to do is find someone who has cable so that we can watch the recording of the parade!
Did you know that magnetic/automatic latches don’t care if your digits are in the way? Well, they don’t. Because they are jerks like that.
I squashed my thumb in the centrifuge lid today. HOLYSHITOW! I knew I’d banged it pretty good, but I was wearing purple gloves. I peeled ’em off to discover a happy little blue bruise forming under my nail. Urk. I went to the lunchroom and found a soft ice pack, and put it on my thumb while making little high-pitched noises and (presumably) weird faces.
My boss suggested I get it looked at just in case, so I tried to go to the walk-in clinic, but they were closed for some reason, so I went to my regular doctor and waited an hour to get told “yep, it’s a squished thumb, here, sign this WSIB form”. I mean really, it’s not broken, sprained, or strained, so there isn’t really anything anyone can do about it except put ice on it. Which I am. Since I only hit about half of the nail bed, I shouldn’t have any problems with the nail itself, but I’m supposed to keep an eye on it in case the nail bed dies. But it’s just a blue bruise now, not one of those creepy black ones. Once it stops hurting, I’ll probably go back to wearing nail polish until it grows out.
I am somewhat concerned that I had to explain what a centrifuge was to my doctor.
I don’t have a soft ice pack here at home, but I found some old flax seeds and put them in a plastic baggie. It actually works really well. Which is good, seeing as the original reason I bought the seeds a few years ago was to make some hot/cold packs.
So this is my thumb:
1056
So now I’m sitting at home in my fox PJs (post on that later, I still have to attach the buttons) with a sore thumb and a baggie of seeds.
Dude #1: They have been underestimating my power. Dude #2: What? Dude #1: They have been underestimating my power for quite some time now. Dude #2: What are you, a supervillain? Who’s been underestimating your power? The justice league? Dude #1: No, the electric company. They say I owe them eight hundred dollars. Dude #2: Dude, you and I were having two totally different conversations.

Some days, I wish I was a supervillain. I’d have a cool outfit and a kick-ass lair/lab. I wanted to be called SiniStar, but I’ve been informed that that’s already a game from 1982. I’m considering stealing the name anyway, unless I can come up with a better one. Suggestions accepted.
Ive started reading another webcomic. How many is that now?
Requiem Mask is currently on Deviant Art, but will eventually be found on RequiemMask.com. It combines my phandom with pretty pictures and a cute storyline. It’s pretty and silly, and I like it, so there. It’s a Canadian comic, too, so words are spelled properly. ^_~
Josh had his laser eye surgery today yesterday (I got distracted by other things and forgot to hit Publish)!
It was a pretty neat experience, and all I did was show up & drive! His appointment was for 12:30, and we were at the laser clinic until about 2pm. Most of that time was waiting around, talking to the Doctor, and waiting for the plethora of fluids they dripped into his eyes to take effect. Numbing agents, steroids, antibiotics, etc.
The actual surgery took less than 5 min, but I am sure it felt longer for him. I got to watch through a window, and he looked so nervous. Not that I can blame him. the Doctor seemed nice and was efficient, though. Some fiddling with the suction cup and eyelid-holder and a hot/sharp sounding SNAP-SNAP-SNAP from the laser and he was done. Eyes bloodshot and bruised from the equipment used to make sure he didn’t blink, but done. Even though it was blurry due to the swelling of the cornea, he could already see better than he previously could without his glasses. Yay!
He got these little clear plastic eye protectors, that look kinda like pirate eye-patches, except you have to hold them on your face with medical tape. He has to wear them while sleeping. He is sleeping right now and looks like a bug.
He’s got drops he has to put in his eyes every hour that he’s awake for the next 48 hours. Or he can sleep. Sleep is better than drop right now, so he’s sleeping. When you sleep, your eyes are not exposed to air, and you’re not tempted to strain them. When he wakes up, he’ll have to use the drops for about a week. He’s going to be an export at that by the time this is over. He’s never been that great at eye drops. For some reason he likes to stare right at the dropper, which results in a drop in your iris/pupil, which is way more irritating to the eye than a drop to the sclera!
I’ve decided that I probably want laser eye surgery if/when my eyes change enough to need vision glasses (not reading glasses). Expensive, but not a hassle at all, and seems to be well worth it! ^_^
This month when our mortgage payment was taken out of our bank account, it was about $180 less than normal. Concerned, we talked to the bank and found it went down when our property taxes were reassessed. Sweet!
Since we’d been planning on adjusting our mortgage payments anyway, we decided to have the payment amount bumped back up to where it had been for the past year and switch to bi-weekly payments instead of monthly payments. We bumped up to the old payment amount, because we’ve been paying that much for a year with no problems, so why not keep paying a comfortable amount that’s suddenly an overpayment? We went bi-weekly because then it makes 13 full payments per year instead of 12. Both of these things will reduce the length of the mortgage.
What I was not prepared for was how much they affected the length of the mortgage. I know about compound interest and what happens over a long number of years. I get it, I do. But holy crap! What a real-life example to kick us in the butt!
Our mortgage was for 40 years. (Yeah, yeah, I know. Bad us.) We’ve been paying for 1 year now. We went in considering the first year to be a wash in regard to paying it down, due to other expenses of moving and settling in to our first home. Now, with only 1 year of payments (which really didn’t touch the principle) and two minor adjustments, our projected mortgage time is 23 and a half years. Twenty-three.
That means we cut 16 years off our mortgage! With tiny changes that don’t really affect the amount of money leaving our pockets now. Not to mention any changes we make in the future, like when we get raises or whatever.
Well, except for in October. In October, we get to pay a full payment on the 1st, then an interest-only payment ($43) on the 2nd, then our first bi-weekly payment on the 16th and then again on the 30th. Yikes! Might have to pull from the LoC to cover all that, but we’ll see. After October, it’ll be business as usual.
I don’t know about you, but keeping 16 years worth of interest in our pockets instead of in the bank’s makes me feel pretty damn good! ^_^
