I went to a small smart car meet-up tonight. A bunch of local Smarties go together at the Cambridge East Side Mario’s and had dinner and hung out. I took some photos but I haven’t pulled them off my camera yet. It was too cold and rainy to hang out for long after dinner, though.
This was a few days ago, but it made me laugh:

I’m also trying a new plugin in this post “Post Avatar”. Adds an avatar of my choice to the post, like on LJ. Unlike LJ, I can upload an unlimited number of images to my icons folder, so that’s handy. ^_^
EDIT: It seems to work quite well. Even gives a little preview of the icon when I go to select it from the list. Handy!
EDIT 2: Looks like my RSS is currently broken. Damn. Looks like it’s a plugin code bug, though, so we’re waiting on an update.
Wait, so now the $700 Billion Bailout thing has passed (at least by the Senate) and should be approved by the president by the weekend? I thought that was a bad thing. Did the second draft change much from the first draft, so now this plan is better?
Or is it now just a day late and a dollar short?
I like this article about the now-defeated $700 Billion Bailout in the US. I think it gives a slightly different perspective than I’d read yet, and it makes sense to me.
My personal opinion is that they’re going to get hit hard no matter what they do (though I’m hoping the rest of us will emerge rather unscathed…) so they may as well try to fix the system that led to this situation, rather than trying to prop it up so it can keep doing what it was doing.

This is cute. Not as catchy as the “This Land” one they did last time (at least, not after only one watch) but still funny and amusing. ^_^
Ta da! The first pictures of my new car!
Bought it in June, it was build and then docked in Halifax on September 2, 2008, just arrived at the dealership on Wednesday, and today it’s mine! ^_^
This is the first new car I’ve ever owned, and the lovely carcinogenic “new car smell” smells niiiiiiice!
*happy dance*
I’d have a lot more photos if it wasn’t raining and crappy out today. 🙁
And yes, my hair really is blue. Dyed it last night specifically for the Smart.
My car is in! My car is in!
I actually got the call from the dealer yesterday, but I was on my way out and didn’t have time to post, and when I got home again I decided to make my previous eloquent post instead.
Essentially, on Monday they had no idea where my car was, and on Wednesday they called me and said it had arrived and that I could pick it up on Saturday!
So:
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
*ahem*
He asked what time I could come by on Saturday, and I just said “What time do you open?” ^_~
I can’t wait!
Tomorrow after work i get to do such fun things as wash and vacuum out my current car, in the hopes that a bit of elbow grease will get me a few more dollars on the trade-in value. I have no idea if it’ll make a difference, as they will undoubtedly have to clean and detail it themselves before selling it (or rather, the dealership (?) that they turn around and sell it to will have to detail it, as Mercedes dealership don’t sell double-used 8 year old Hyundai Accents on their lot ^_~ ) so I don’t think I’m saving them any money by washing it first.
Be prepared for lots of pictures. You have been warned!
SEVEN HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS?
I placed the order for my car on June 10th.
It was build and finally arrived in the Halifax port on September 2. Yay! Of course I tracked it on its journey across the ocean as well, so I knew when it arrived.
I called up the dealer that day to ask how long it usually took to get from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Kitchener, Ontario. They said about 10 days, plus a couple days for it to “get ready” at the dealership and then I’d have my car. Two weeks, yay! It takes the train to Concord, Ontario, and is then put on a truck to drive down the highway to Kitchener.
Now it’s been 16 days (more than 10!) and it’s still not even at the dealership. As it’s no longer on the boat, I can’t track it any more, but the dealer’s tracking shows it as “on rail”, meaning it’s still on the train. It’s not even on the flat-bed truck that brings it from Concord to Kitchener (1 hour apart).
Ok, that wouldn’t be so bad, it’s not like FedEx and shipping times are neither exact nor guaranteed. However, a person on a Smart forum I’m on just picked up her car in Oakville on Monday the 15th – and her car came over on the same boat as mine!! For reference, Oakville is roughly halfway between Concord and Kitchener; just a little further South. So it’s not like she’s way closer to Halifax or something.
What did my car do, fall off the train?!?
My dad says it was abducted off the train by a bunch of hobos, and it’s now a hobo-mobile. They are driving around in it with their little chequered sacks sticking out the back window.

So at like 4 am today, a building at Keele/Wilson area exploded! I’ve heard it was a propane depot (Sunrise Propane?). I used to live at Jane/Finch (two city blocks Northwest) and go to the York University campus!!
People downtown (~an hour away by subway/bus) were seeing and photographing the explosions as they happened.
(big explosion at 1:50)
The TTC was called in to bus evacuees from the area to the Yorkdale mall.
No known fatalities, 3 (I think) injuries. Pretty damn good if you ask me.
Lots of photos over at Torontophoto on LJ and on Flickr
According to HoTornotGossip.com, police are suspecting foul play.
