Snowing. Again.

It’s snowing again, and apparently snowed all night. I think thats over 2 feet of snow we’ve received in the last few days. Blegh.

My original plan for today was to go to Kitchener to go to the Mercedes dealer and test drive a ForTwo in this shitty weather. No point in continuing to lust after one if I can’t actually drive it around town for half of the year, eh?

But it’s crappier out than I’d hoped. While this would make for an excellent test, it also makes me want to just hide inside and not go out unless I really have to.

Boo-urns.

Testing 1, 2, 3

This is a test. This entry has been backdated to January 18, 2008.
I would like to import all of my LJ entries into this blog, but I don’t need my RSS or anything flooded with 597 entries dating back to 2003.

There will be a second test shortly to see if there is any difference between importing multiple backdated entries and typing them directly into the admin.

SunLife Gets with the ’00s

Yay!

Josh’s work benefits were recently updated to include coverage for my type of birth control! Before they only covered the Pill, and I use the Patch.
Sweet. I had to go to the drugstore to pick some up anyway, so this is good news.

Just ’cause you all care about my sex life.

Haircut!

I got my hair cut on Friday!
Of course, I also broke my Gallery2 installation while trying to upgrade it on Friday, which is why I didn’t post about this then. :p I’ve fixed it now, so now I can post this!

The stylist cut off about 17″ of hair!

I’d spent a couple weeks looking at hair images online, and wasn’t really much closer to figuring out what I wanted my hair to look like.
I ended up going into the salon and telling the stylist he could do whatever he wanted. I wanted it short, but not a boy or granny haircut.
This is what I ended up with. ^_^ I love it; it feels so light!

I haven’t had my hair this short since grade 10/11.

I’ve always loved long hair. As in, down-to-the-waist or -butt long. I like it best straight, but I always like straight hair best (unfortunately for me, my own hair is wavy). If it’s well-kept, I’ll always love long hair.

So over a year ago, I decided to grow my own hair as long as I could. I was hoping for about waist length, with all the layers grown out so it was cut flat at the bottom.
For over a year, I babied my hair. I didn’t use heat (with the exception of my wedding hair style), or harsh shampoos, or use damaging products. It actually grew quite well, and I ended up reaching most of my goal; with 28″ of hair at the longest layer, it hit just below my waist when it was held to the full length (longer than I thought the last time I wrote about it). It’s wavy, so it sat a bit higher naturally.

I finally realized that I wasn’t having any fun with my hair. I pretty much just had hair for the sake of growing hair. Big whoop.
Even though I had long hair, it was still at that “in between” stage; the shortest layers were still too short to do proper “long hair styles” with. And because I couldn’t pin it up very well, I tended to just wear it down (or pin up just the back) and it just hung there. Blah.

I had a lot of great ideas for what I’d do with my hair when it was “right”. This usually meant when I had no more layers and it was all at my waist. But as this goal got closer and closer, I realized that my hair wasn’t looking better to me. It was just longer, but it wasn’t really doing what I wanted it to do.
So I just said screw it. Hack it all off and play with it. I want to dye it again, and not worry that the dye will still be in there in 2 years. I want to dye it a wacky colour at least once, then be able to bleach it out and dye it back to brown without having the damage hang around forever. I’d even like to do dreads for a little while (the tie-in kind, not the knot-up-your-own-hair-forever kind), but I’m not sure my job would go for that. ^_~

I still don’t believe any of the crap the media tries to claim about long hair, like how only short people can’t have long hair or it makes them look shorter, or how women can’t have long hair after high school or it makes them look unprofessional, or that grannies all look better with tight white permed hair instead of long white hair, but for now, I’d rather have fun with my hair, rather than trying to make it nice for myself “in the future”. I’ll deal with the future when it comes. ^_^

I’ll probably grow it long again someday, but I’ll start with it already short, rather than starting with shoulder-length hair that’s been dyed several times; bleached, heat styled, and otherwise damaged. I don’t need inches of damaged hair just for the sake of the inches. GIGO, so to speak.

As a side note, I also discovered that I have many more white hairs than I’d through previously, and that most of them had grown long enough to actually be cut by this hair cut. Most are still in a well-behaved little clump, though, so that’s good. I’d rather grow a stripe than go salt-and-pepper.

Also note that the gallery itself looks like ass, and probably will continue to do so until I find a permanent blog layout and the edit the gallery layout to match.

Kitten Foot!

Last night I learned that I’m not the only weirdo who thinks cat feet are incredibly adorable!

Cat feet!

There is an entire Flickr Group dedicated to photos of kitty feet!

Of course I joined it. What would you expect from the owner of RaspberryPaws.com and KittenFoot.com?

(Edit: the one time I don’t want photos to be inline, this layout does that by default. Boo.)

Google Earth WTF

Does someone famous with loads of political clout live in Guelph or something?

Why the hell can you zoom in much farther to some dinky town like Tiverton or Ripley than you can for Guelph on Goolge Earth/Maps?

I want to see Guelph, damn it. I don’t care about random farmland in North Eastern Ontario.

Hair (Continued)

I think what I’m just going to do is go to the nice spa downtown and get a “nice” haircut. By that I mean I’ll probably have to drop $50-$60+ on a haircut, instead of like $25.

My coworker had a very nice experience (and got a nice haircut) there a couple weeks ago. I’ve never paid that much for a haircut in my life, but it includes an actual proper consultation. I need more help with this than just flipping through a couple hair style books by myself. I also want to look good, not just different, so I need a better style than I could get at a cheap place like First Choice or some such. Plus, they should be able to show me how to keep up the style myself at home. I hate when you get a nice haircut, and then can’t quite figure out how to make it look the same in the mornings, and it ends up looking stupid.

Now, much as I really, really want to have my hair be blue, if I’m going to spend $60 cutting my hair, I don’t want it totally fried beforehand. I’ll just get a nice hair cut, and worry about funkifying it later. If I make it blue when it’s short (or even just add blue highlights or something) then it’ll only take a couple months to completely grow out if I need to get rid of it. If I go into the haircut with bleached hair, it may limit my options.

I could easily still capitalize on this, however. If I get my hair short (which I’d like to) it means several inches (~12) will be cut off in a braid. I can then take that hair and weft it. I can bleach and dye the wefts whatever colour I want for clip-in highlights. And, incidentally, dyed human hair highlights sell quite well on eBay. I could either use ’em myself, or sell ’em. Sweet.

I still will end up with blue hair somehow, rest assured. ^_~

Pink or Blue Hair? Zany!

I’ve been bored with my hair for several months now. I’ve been putting off doing anything to it in case I regret it, but that’s no fun. My original plan was to try to grow it down to my waist, just to see if I could. I’m only about 2-3 months or so from this goal, so essentially I know I “can” do it. It’s just that it sorta looks crappy lately. I’m not very good at styling it, and I’m tired of it.
I want to get something completely different, like a long A-line cut or something.

But before I cut it all off, I may as well have some fun with it and dye it some funky colour for no other reason than I want to and have never been able to.
