Please Face the Camera and State Your Name

Registration at RaspberryPaws is now open!

Please register if you read my blog. On the right, under Meta, there is now a “Register” option.
Please email me or comment here if you have problems with the registration.

At some point in the future registration will be required to read and comment here.
I’ve decided that I don’t need current or potential customers, or current or potential employers finding and reading this personal blog of mine. It’s supposed to be a personal blog for my friends to read. For more details as to why, please read this post and comments.

Ow Ow Ow!

I managed to get a nice chemical burn today.

I had ballet tonight, and I wanted to have a quick shower and de-fuzz myself before running around in tights and a leotard.

I’ve never had any sensitivity or burn issues with depilatory creams before, but I think I’ve tipped the scale and probably can’t use them anymore. The backs of my calves are now raw and they sting.

Just in time for the office Christmas party tomorrow night, where I’m wearing a dress! Yay! 😛

New Feature(s)

My blog now has a little feature where you can subscribe to the comments of a single entry. Because I know you’re all dying to follow the conversation around here. ^_~

I like the feature, though. I use it on other blogs, when it’s offered. Sometimes I ask a question in the comments, or want to see how the author responds to my comment, but I’m just not interested in subscribing the the RSS Comments Feed because I don’t care to read every comment they receive. I only care about ones relevant to posts I care enough about to comment on. ^_^

I’m also considering requiring registration for reading and/or commenting. Gord pulled it off without a hitch. While there’s no one in particular I’m trying to avoid, now that I’m working on a fully public blog, I’d like to make sure my private blog stays private.

New Theme

I have a new WP theme now.

I upgraded this blog to WP 2.3.1 finally, and my old theme didn’t really work with widgets. I’m not entirely sure if I like this one, but it’ll do for now. I’d like to get a nice theme done some day, but I’m not really at the point where I can spend money on a blog layout (who is?).

Random Question

Random question:

If someone from around 300 years in the future came to you, what would it take to convince you that they are indeed from the future?

This question assumes that:
a) you didn’t seem them *pop* into the present in some sort of sci-fi flash or something, and
b) that you don’t normally trust random crazy-sounding strangers enough to just blindly follow them into their time machine to actually go into the future to see for yourself until you have reason to believe them.

Guess what we did last weekend?

We signed our purchase agreement for our house!
Well, conditional upon financing, lawyer review, and a home inspection once the place is built, of course.

But still!!!
We’re on our way to owning a house! Yaaaaaaay! ^_^

House House House House House House House House House House!

~~~~~~
If anyone out there is going to be a cyborg for Hallowe’en (like me) or a robot or something, I urge you to look into making some LED Throwies.
The quick synopsis: Take an LED and a 3V lithium battery. Slide the LED prongs over the battery with the long prong touching the positive side of the battery. Tape in place (I’m using electrical tape instead of the clear tape they use, because I’m sticking mine near fabric and skin, not tossing them around outside). Instant lit LED! No wires or soldering skill required. Awesome. ^_^
Then you can just put them onto your costume, and there’s no wires running all over you. I just left out the magnets, as I didn’t need them to be magnetic since I’m attaching them to my costume.
Mine ended up being a bit more expensive than the ones on the Intarwebz, even though I skipped the magnets (that would have made them even more expensive) because the only LEDs I could get my hands on were 20/$5, but they’re still cheap. I went to RaioShack. Don’t go there for the batteries though; they were about $4 each. Head on down to your local Dollar store, where I picked up mine at 3/$1. You don’t need fancy ones, all they need to do is power a single LED, not a digital camera. ^_~
New House Fun! (or I’m never gonna get to retire)
Yay!
Our mortgage pre-approval got pre-approved!
Which apparently means that we’re allowed to sign a piece of paper that acknowledges this pre-approval status and would become binding in the event that we are approved. This piece of paper is then the thing that true approval is based on.
It seems a little circular to me but hey, this is the first time I’ve done anything like this ever.
The point is, we’ve been looking for houses and now we have a dollar figure from the bank so we know what we can spend and how much it’ll cost us.
The answer is A LOT.
This is both good and quite scary.
Apparently we also have very good credit. That feels good to know. I was a bit worried because I hit rock-bottom-had-no-money-to-my-name living-off-the-credit-card-until-I-graduated a couple years ago, and all of twice (in the past 8 years) paid my credit card bill late.
Hey, it’s not like I know how much “weight” that kind of thing has if you’ve paid on time/paid it off every other month for the 8 years I’ve had the thing.
I knew I was good otherwise; building good credit is the whole point of getting a credit card when you turn 18. ^_^
So blah, blah, blah, we’ve been doing some serious financial shuffling and number crunching.
We can afford the house we’re looking at (more details in a future post) plus have some left for proper savings (plus regular living, of course) with a few minor changes; mostly to my spending habits.
*cough*
Anyway!
Exciting! Scary! Mostly exciting!
More news as things develop!
You know what’s depressing? Still owing about $2k on my car over and above the amount that it’s worth if I sold it.
Friday Forecast
I think my fever has finally broken, and I feel a bit better today. (read: I am out of bed already) Well, my head/self feels better, but my body is still gross.
The downside is that apparently I have become a phlegm-producing machine. Nasty.
I’m annoyed because I had to miss my 2nd ballet class last night. Bad enough to miss any, but the second? Where we’re still learning basic things? Boo-urns on that.
Even more annoying was that because I worked last weekend, I was going to get yesterday and today off work anyway. Instead of being productive and making hats/etc for the show I’m in next weekend, I spend most of the week sleeping. Josh is away in Texas, I could have gotten so much done, but no.
I just found a huge yellow bruise on my ankle but I have no idea what it’s from. What the hell?
Also: JP3 was right??? Cool.
